Calcutta, Nov. 18: The East Midnapore and South 24-Parganas district administrations today called off search operations for the fishermen and trawlers missing since last Tuesday’s cyclone along the Bengal coast, reports our special correspondent.
Fisheries minister Kiranmoy Nanda said 74 fishermen and 12 trawlers were yet to be traced. Only three bodies could be recovered.
“We feel there is no use carrying out further search operations. However, experience tells us some of the missing fishermen may have floated along the coasts in other states,” Nanda said.
