Gibbs, Kallis stave off Lanka

Centurion, Nov. 16 (Reuters): Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis’ unbeaten century partnership helped South Africa recover from a shaky start on Day II of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

South Africa were 183 for two at close in reply to Sri Lanka’s first innings 323.

Sri Lanka, who built their total around an unbeaten 104 by Hashan Tillekeratne, had South Africa struggling at 71 for two before Gibbs, batting on 76 with Kallis on 69 came together in a stand of 112.

Fast bowler Dilhara Fernando took both South African wickets, trapping Graeme Smith leg before for 15 and having Gary Kirsten caught at gully for 11.
