New Delhi, Nov. 16: Malayala Manorama editor Mammen Mathew has become the first Indian to be appointed as a Reuters trustee — considered to be an honour among journalists world-over.

Mathew will now be one of the trustees of the Reuters Founders Share Company (RFSC), tasked to safeguard the neutrality and independence of Reuters — the global news agency.

Welcoming his appointment, RFSC chairman Pehr Gyllenhammar said: “We are delighted to welcome Mammen Mathew as a Reuters trustee. He brings a strong background in international journalism and we are sure he will make a valuable contribution to the Reuters Founders Share Company.”
