Mukesh takes Day I lead

Calcutta: Mukesh Kumar started his defence of the Rs. 8.5 lakh Servo Masters, carding a four-under 68 to enjoy the Day I lead at Digboi Club Golf links on Wednesday.

According to information received here, the current leader on the money list on the Hero Honda Indian Golf Tour, opened up a one-stroke lead over Mohammed Islam, Shamim Khan and Digvijay Singh, tied at second place at three-under 69.

Unheralded boy from Calcutta, Shankar Das shot a two-under 70 to be tied for the fifth place.

Barring a mistake on the par-4 sixth, the 36-year-old Mukesh was a picture of perfection most of the times.

South India golf

City boys Ranjit Singh of RCGC and Rommel Majumdar of Fort William Golf Club were leading the packs in under-17 and under-10 categories, respectively, of the Eagleton south India juniors and sub-juniors golf championships on Wednesday.

Tollygunge Club’s Akshay Butta and Aman Rangrass were placed at seventh and 12th positions in the under-17 section, respectively, while RCGC’s Arya Gupta was at 11th spot in under-14 category after two days’ action.
