Dalit lynching arrests

Rohtak, Nov. 13 (PTI): Prohibitory orders under Section 144, banning the assembly of five or more persons, were tonight imposed in Jhajjar after tension erupted following the arrest of five persons over the Dulina Dalit lynchings.

Soon after this morning’s arrests in Sura village, locals and people from adjoining areas blocked roads leading from Jhajjar to Gurgaon, Delhi and Rewari. Newsmen were threatened for allegedly blowing the incident out of proportion.

Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists moved around in markets in Jhajjar and closed down shops. All schools and colleges in the district have been closed till Friday, official sources said.

A member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Narain Singh Kesri said in Panipat that the panel had decided to summon the Haryana home secretary.
