7 Naxalites killed in encounter

Hyderabad, Nov. 11: Seven activists of the PWG, including two women, were killed in an encounter in the forests of Dandakarnya in Karimnagar early this morning.

After laying a trap for the last two months, a police patrol chanced upon the dalam of Suryam, a former district committee member of the Janashakti group, who has floated a new splinter now.

The encounter took place in Mauttaram Mandal in Karimnagar in which PWG activists Jampanna, Rani, Tirumala, Rajamma and Malati were killed. Three others escaped hurt.

The police said they had seized weapons from the killed activists.

The Suryam dalam was engaged in extortionist activities in the region. The group fleeced bus passengers, lorry operators and forest contractors.

The activist groups have once again appealed to civil rights groups and like-minded people to put pressure on the government to start dialogue with the banned outfit.

The PWG has been on the offensive against the government ever since the failure of talks in July.
