Ummer Koya stays Fide vice-president

New Delhi: All India Chess Federation secretary P.T. Ummer Koya has been re-elected Fide vice president unanimously in an interim election held at Bled, Slovenia.

Fide will once again be chaired by Kirsan Illumjhinov of Kalmykia who retained the presidency for the third time since 1996.

Having reached an accord with the other ‘ticket’ holders a couple of months back, Illumzhinov and his team faced ‘no-contest’ in the general body meeting, according to information received here.

Alongside Illumzhinov in the Fide office will be Georgios Makropoulos of Greece as deputy president, Noureddine Tabbane of Tunisia as general secretary and David Jarrett of England.
