Alford saddles winner in Dubai

Calcutta: The city-based trainer Richard Alfordís ward Concel won a race in Dubaiís Nad Al Sheba racecourse Thursday, informed his family sources. In the process he made history as he became the first Indian trainer to saddle winners simultaneously at home and abroad ó and, of course, during the same season. Richardís Royal Satin had triumphed on November 1, the opening day of the winter season. Incidentally, it was also the first winner for his chief patron, Rashid Bouresly. Sources said, immensely delighted, the Kuwait-based owner celebrated the win till the wee hours of Friday. With racing activities suspended in Dubai for a month during Ramzan, Richard will be city bound on Sunday. He plans to train simultaneously in RCTC.
