Accidental shot hits DSP nephew

Siliguri, Nov. 8: The nephew of a senior police officer in Siliguri was critically injured by a bullet accidentally fired from the service revolver of his uncle.

Anupam Sarkar,19, had come to the Millan Pally residence of deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Swapan Sarkar from Calcutta for Diwali.

Anupam was rushed to the North Bengal Clinic. “The bullet hit his neck, he had to be operated upon immediately. Anupam has suffered arterial damages,” a doctor said.

Anupam was chatting with his uncle this morning when he began cleaning his service revolver, unmindful of the fact that it was loaded.

“Somehow, the DSP had applied pressure on the trigger. The bullet hit his nephew a few yards away from him,” a senior police officer said.
