Srichaphan jumps to No. 18

Paris: Paradorn Srichaphan’s superb end of year form has seen the Thai break into the top-20 of the ATP Champions Race. Srichaphan’s title in Stockholm and semi-final showing in the Paris Masters have helped him to No. 18. Last year he was 126th.

The best-ever ranking ever achieved by an Asian is No. 16 by Vijay Amritraj in 1980.

The tall and friendly Thai is within striking distance of dethroning the Indian maestro.

Lleyton Hewitt, who lost to Russia’s Marat Safin in the Paris Masters final Sunday, still heads the table.

The top seven and French Open champion Albert Costa have gained entry to the lucrative Masters Cup in Shanghai from November 12 to 17.
