Urine charge against cops

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 3: The members of a puja committee in Kendrapara district have alleged that they were forced to drink urine in police custody, reports our correspondent.

In a memorandum to Kendrapara district collector Hemant Sharma, the members of Mankarpur puja committee said a senior police officer had beaten them up during their detention in Marsaghai police station.

The members were arrested for blocking the road in protest against the damage done to an idol they were taking for immersion.

They alleged that the head of the puja committee was badly beaten and forced to drink urine for daring to protest against police brutalities.

The district collector said the allegations were being looked into. Kendrapara SP Sanjay Kumar, however, refuted it.
