Indians romp to easy wins

Bled (Slovenia), Nov. 2 (PTI): GM-aspirant Surya Sekhar Ganguly and GM K. Sasikiran led from the front as Indian men defeated the Philippines 3-1 in the seventh round of the 35th Chess Olympiad here.

The women’s team too scored a remarkable 3-0 victory over Ecuador to move to the joint ninth position on 13.5 points.

Russia continued to lead and scored a 3-1 win over Poland.

The defending champions, helped by a superb win by Garri Kasparov, who beat GM Michael Krasenko in just 25 moves, are 2.5 points clear of second placed Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, The Netherlands and Hungary with 21.5 points.
