Bengal start with big win

Calcutta: Bengal started their under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy campaign in style, thrashing Sikkim by an innings and 68 runs in Cuttack on Monday.

According to information received here, Sikkim, still needing 171 runs more to force Bengal to bat again, were bundled out for 122 on the final day. Ambar Roy took six for 37 to trigger Sikkim’s collapse.

In the under-15 Polly Umrigar Trophy, Bengal took just eight balls to finish off Sikkim’s second innings and registered a facile innings and 271 run win

COOCH BEHAR TROPHY

Brief scores: Sikkim 130 and 122 (Ambar Roy 6/37). Bengal 320/9 decl (Aranya Deb Sarkar 49, Arup Tripathy 41). Bengal won by innings and 68 runs.

POLLY UMRIGAR TROPHY

Summarised scores: Bengal 462. Sikkim 76 and 115 (Bablu Goswami 5/32). Bengal won by an innings and 271 runs l Bihar 378 and 60/1. Assam 150 and 287 (S. Purakayastha 127). Bihar won by 9 wkts.
