Ill child clue to arrest

Chinsurah, Oct. 27: A medical representative from Konnagar-Nabagram under Uttarpara police station was arrested last night on the charge of fudging the expiry date on a vaccine meant for children.

He was picked up after Tarun Bhattacharya, a local resident, lodged a complaint in the evening that his two-month-old child was taken ill after being administered an injection by a paediatrician on October 16, police said.

The officer in-charge of Uttarpara police station went to question the child-specialist, who checked all empty vials of injections that had been administered that day.

The doctor detected that the expiry dates on the vials had been tampered with. He told the police about the whereabouts of the medical representative who had supplied them.
