Recruitment scam probe

Calcutta, Oct. 25: The animal resources department today cancelled the appointments of 145 Group-D staff who had been recruited before the pujas in the Animal and Fishery Sciences University.

Minister Anisur Rahman said at Writers’ Buildings today he has sought an explanation from vice-chancellor Asim Bhattacharya about the appointments “flouting all rules and norms” and ordered an inquiry. The matter would be taken up with the chancellor of the university, Governor Viren J. Shah. Asked if he was contemplating action against Bhattacharya, Rahman said: “No one will be spared.”

The university had appointed the staff on contract with a salary of Rs 2,850. There had been no advertisements for the posts. Only a notice was pasted in the university announcing that 145 people would be appointed.
