India lose 0-4 but may still go through

Calcutta: India crashed to a 0-4 defeat in their last match of the AFC under-20 tournament against Saudi Arabia in Qatar Tuesday.

However, the Indian team could still qualify for the quarter final stage as one of the two third-best teams.

According to information received here, the Indians were down to ten men in the first minute after defender Prashant Jaggi was given marching orders.

They conceded the first goal in the seventh minute when M.H. Mahyani hit the bullís eye. Saudi Arabia doubled their lead via a 41st-minute strike by A.A. Dosari.

Crossing over with a two-goal cushion, Saudi Arabia pressed further. J. Shabahi made it 3-0 immediately after the resumption while A. Autef added to Indian woes with a 52nd-minute strike.

The Indians have an overall goal-tally of 7-6 from three games. They thrashed Bangladesh 6-0 in the first match and went down 1-2 to Japan.
