Imphal: The Northeast had a productive second day at the 58th LG Santosh Trophy with three states — Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram winning their league matches on Friday.
They were joined by Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar, who got a walkover after the Daman and Diu team failed to turn up at the Thangmeiband Athletic Union ground. Later, they were scratched from the tournament.
Assam beat Andhra Pradesh 3-0, Meghalaya beat Chandigarh 2-1, Mizoram defeated Madhya Pradesh by a similar margin and J&K thrashed Rajasthan 4-0.
At the Mapal Kangjeibung ground, Utpal Basumatary, Kamal Chhetry and substitute Padum Brpha scored for Assam.
In their match versus Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram went into the break leading 1-0 and scored again when the match resumed. Madhya Pradesh’s efforts paid off when they managed to reduce the margin by one.
At the Eastern Sporting Union ground, Sooki Lamare and Richard Nongmeng scored for Meghalaya.
