Calcutta: The current Telegraph Monsoon Rally champion in the two-wheeler category, Rajarshi Chakraborty (31), was killed on Wednesday in a road accident.
An unidentified truck struck his motor-bike at the Durgapur Express Highway near Dankuni at 8:05 am. The Bengal Motor Sports Association secretary Kunal Banerjee informed that Rajarshi was taken to the Welsh hospital in Dankuni where he was declared dead. He is survived by his parents.
“He was a keen sportsman and it is a great loss for the rallying fraternity of the state. We are shocked and deeply aggrieved at his untimely death,” Banerjee added. He also informed that Rajarshi had come second in the Kaviguru Rally and took the third place in the Kalinga Rally this year.
