Anand back in reckoning

Hyderabad, Oct. 12 (PTI): After a shock defeat to compatriot K. Sasikiran in the previous round, defending champion Viswanathan Anand bounced back into reckoning outwitting Rustamm Ksimdzhanov of Uzbekistan in the third round of the World Cup chess tournament here today.

In the womenís section, GM Koneru Humpyís dream run continued as she registered her third victory defeating Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia to lead group C after three matches. Bhagyashree Thipsay lost her third match of the meet, going down to Stepovaia Dianchenko of Russia. S. Meenakshi split a point with Joanna Dworakowka of Poland, while sister Vijayalakshmi lost to Xu Yuhua.

Anand dominated the board with white and suffocated his opponentís major pieces in the middle game. With Anandís advanced d7 pawn threatening the rival queen, the Russian was left with no choice but to lose material and finally the game in 31 moves.
