Paes-Bhupathi in final

Busan, Oct. 10 (PTI): Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes reached the tennis doubles final at the Asian Games Thursday. They beat South Koreaís Oh Hee-kwon and Dong Hyun-kim 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Bhupathi also reached the mixed doubles final with Manisha Malhotra.

Vishal Uppal and Mustafa Ghouse lost to a South Korean pair in their menís doubles semi-finals, while Paes and Sania Mirza went down to another home team duo in their mixed doubles last four tie.

South Korea lost to Iran 3-5 in tie-breaker in the football semi-finals. Japan beat Thailand 3-0 in the other match.

Pullela Gopichand whipped East Timorís Fransisco Yong 15-0, 15-0 in a badminton first round match, but Abhinn Shyam Gupta lost to Hendrawan.

Taking a cue from the hockey players, the Indian spikers thrashed Pakistan 3-0 in a play-off for minor placings. India carved out a 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 victory to set up a clash with Chinese Taipei for the fifth place.

Indian challenge in archery came to an end with the menís team bowing out in quarter finals of the Olympic round by a narrow three-point margin. The team of Limba Ram, Ved Kumar, Satyadev Prasad and Kailash lost to Kazakhstan 239-242.

None of the Indians in taekwondo was able to progress beyond Round III.
