Life term for teen murderer

Omar Gazab Alam, alias Gudda, 19, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the city sessions court on Monday for killing his 13-year-old neighbour last year. Judge Basudeb Majumdar directed Gudda to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

Soumen Mitra, deputy commissioner of police (detective department), who was overseeing the probe, said Gudda had stopped Nillappa Kulu Rao on Eden Hospital Road and murdered him on March 23, 2001.

Gudda took refuge at Arrah, in Bihar. The city police took two months to arrest him. Mitra said Rao had pushed Gudda’s sister while she was skating along C.R. Avenue. Gudda threatened Rao. Rao’s parents sent him to a relative’s house. He was back after three weeks, only to be murdered.
