Awareness drive on heart disorders

World Heart Day was observed in several hospitals and medical institutions in the city on Sunday. Cardiac societies felicitated doctors on the occasion and organised cultural programmes. Awareness campaigns and seminars were held in leading hospitals, explaining to people the hazards of heart diseases and ways to prevent them. A rally, organised by Suhrid, was held at the crossing of AJC Bose Road and Jawaharlal Nehru Road in the morning.

Temple terror attack protest

As part of its all-India programme to condemn the terror attack on Akshardham temple at Gandhinagar, the West Bengal BJP will observe Anti-Terrorist Day at Rani Rashmoni Road on Tuesday. Union minister for civil aviation Shahnawaz Hussain and minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers Tapan Sikdar will address the gathering.

Marga competition

The Renaissance Artists and Writers’ Association, cultural wing of the Ananda Marga, organised a global cultural competition at its Tiljala headquarters on Sunday. Nearly 1,000 participants from across the country sang songs composed and set to tune by Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, founder of the Marga.

Cop felicitation

Ladies Circle of Calcutta will organise an awards ceremony to felicitate meritorious police personnel on October 2 at Rotary Sadan. Police commissioner Sujoy Chakraborty will be the chief guest.

Hurt in clash

CPM activist Nur Islam and Suci member Sabitri Naia were injured along with 10 others when party activists clashed at Joynagar, in South 24-Parganas, on Sunday. They were admitted to MR Bangur Hospital.
