Paes-Hill loses in quarters

New Delhi, Sept. 28(PTI): Leander Paes and his Australian partner Michael Hill bowed out of the $400,000 ATP tennis tournament in Hong Kong after losing to Austrian Julian Knowle and Michael Kohlmann of Germany Friday.

Paes and Hill, third seeds, lost 3-6, 3-6 in the doubles quarter finals, according to information received here.

The other Indian in the fray, Mahesh Bhupathi, had made his exit Thursday when he and Sweden’s Jonas Bjorkman went down to Australia’s Wayne Arthurs and Andrew Kratzmann 6-7 (3-7), 3-6 in the first round.

Somdev wins

Meanwhile, another report from Mumbai adds that second seed Somdev Verman of India defeated top seed Karan Rastogi 6-4, 6-1 to win the boys' singles title at the MSLTA-ITF junior tennis circuit on Saturday.

Chonyan Chen of China won both the girls' singles and doubles title beating Sanaa Bhambri of India 6-1, 6-0 and the Thai pair of Thongdach Pichittra and Mulsap Porntip 6-0, 6-2 pairing with Qing Yue of China, respectively.
