Akhmedov move draws AIFF flak

Calcutta, Sept. 28: The AIFF took strong exception to Indian coach Islam Akhmedov’s decision to release four Mohammedan Sporting players from the India under-20 camp for their CFL Super Division match on Saturday. In a letter to under-20 project-director Ranjit Gupta, the AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco said that he is unhappy with the coach’s ‘unilateral’ decision. Games volleyball team

Loreto, AG in final

Loreto Bowbazar and Assembly of God Church entered the final of the inter-school basketball tournament on Saturday. In the first semi-final, Loreto Bowbazar beat Calcutta Girls’ 27-9, AG Church beat Loreto House 23-14.

Match abandoned

The CFL first division Group A match between City AC and Bata SC was abandoned owing to inadequate match officials. Elsewhere, ECLSA beat BNR 2-0, Calcutta Police and Bally Protiva were relegated to second division following their losses in the Group B championship play-offs.

Federation Cup

Bengal eves were runner-up in the 12th senior Federation Cup at Ludhiana. According to information received, they lost to Bihar, 13-15, 14-16 in the final.

Inter-school darts meet

La Martiniere and South Point won the Eveready Inter-School Darts Tournament’s boy’s and girls’ titles respectively on Friday. While the Martinians beat St Xavier’s Collegiate School 2-0, the South Pointers beat Ashok Hall, also by 2-0.

Cyber Cup bowling

ITC Infotech B and C won in the second Cyber Cup bowling meet on Saturday. While the C team beat Tata Consultancy Services, the B team got the better of Inforace Solutions. Mukherjee condolence

The condolence meeting of former Alekhine Chess Club treasurer Parimal Mukherjee was held at the Gorky Sadan on Saturday. Club members, coaches and parents attended.
