Power drive

Calcutta, Sept. 27: In a pre-puja crackdown on power theft, vigilance squads of the state electricity board have carried out massive raids across the state.

At the end of the drive, power supplies to four oil mills in Raniganj were snapped and FIRs filed. The report accused the mills of drawing power “bypassing” metres. A steel plant in Howrah, too, had its lines cut. One person was arrested.

Board chairman G.D. Gautama on Thursday opened the Krishnapur Group Electricity Supply office that will benefit residents of Baguihati and Krishnapur near the city.
