Move to step up trade in north Bengal

Calcutta, Sept. 23: Somnath Chatterjee, chairman of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, and Ashok Bhattacharjee, state minister for urban development and municipal affairs, today held a meeting to discuss the need for investment in north Bengal. The meeting was attended by several leading entrepreneurs and investors.

At the meeting, the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) launched their new promotional film on north Bengal and made a presentation on business opportunities and availability of infrastructure. The presentation covered business opportunities other than the three traditional Ts—tea, tourism and timber.

Rajesh Pandey, CEO of SJDA, pointed out scope in agri-business, food processing, handicrafts, rubber and medicinal plantations, floriculture, jute and the service sector.
