Calcutta, Sept. 19: Chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has sought telecom expert Sam Pitroda’s help to upgrade the state’s infotech sector.
In a letter to Pitroda today, Bhattacharjee said the government needs his advice to explore Bengal’s IT potential and investment opportunities to ensure an overall economic growth.
Pitroda, the chief executive officer of World Tel, USA, had met the chief minister at Writers’ Buildings on September 13 and offered assistance for the overall development of the state.
During the 30-minute one-to-one meeting, Bhattacharjee explained to Pitroda the state’s progress in different sectors, especially information technology. The chief minister had also described how the industrial scenario has changed and investment prospects brightened.
The telecom guru reportedly assured all assistance in the state’s quest for high-tech excellence.
Acknowledging Pitroda as a pioneer in the telecom and infotech sectors, Bhattacharjee wrote the state will benefit if he could apply his vast knowledge and experience. “We have resources and manpower and Pitroda has knowledge. The chief minister wants to bridge it. Pitroda had offered his services and the chief minister has formally accepted it,’’ said a senior official.
