Goon aides picked up

Two associates of Sheikh Shahzada, a criminal wanted in half-a-dozen murder and extortion cases, were picked up from Jamir Lane on Sunday. A week ago, Shahzada was arrested for threatening a south Calcutta promoter on Anil Roy Road.

Police said on September 6, Shahzada and his associates had gone to the Ross Construction office and demanded Rs 2 lakh from the staff. “They told the company officials to arrange for the money in a couple of days and threatened to kill the owner if the police were informed,’’ said officer-in-charge, Gariahat police station, Tapas Basu. Shahzada was rounded up when the police, posing as employees of the company, trapped him.
