Srinath blows away Somerset

London, Sept. 14 (PTI): Indian paceman Jawagal Srinath bowled his county side Leicestershire to an innings and 18-run victory over Somerset on the second day of their four-day tie Friday.

The victory not only helped Leicestershire to clear themselves off the relegation zone, but also gave them a mathematical chance of finishing as first division runners-up.

Srinath, who had captured four for 60 to restrict Somerset to 191 in the first innings in reply to Leicestershire’s 310, came out blazing with five for 25 to dismiss Somerset for 101 in their second innings.

Brief scores

Somerset 191 (M. Burns 97 no; Srinath 4/60) and 101 (MPL Bulback 18; Srinath 5/25) Leicestershire 310 (TR Ward 84; Johnson 3/71). Leicestershire won by an innings and 18 runs.
