Goons open fire in city hub firm

At 4.40 pm, barely half a kilometre from Lalbazar, four goons walked up the narrow staircase of Jute House, in congested India Exchange Place, barged into an office and opened fire.

Two men were injured before employees of an adjoining office confronted the assailants and caught one of them. The three others hurled a bomb and fired in the air while fleeing.

The injured businessman, Rakecha Jhankarmal, and his relative, Sanjay Nahata, were admitted to hospital.

Hare Street police officers said the criminal quartet probably hailed from Sonarpur, in South 24-Parganas. The arrested goon has, apparently, been “misleading” the cops by dropping various names and addresses. The police faced flak from occupants of the building for their failure to beef up security in the area.
