Calcutta, Sept. 11: Parimal Mukherjee, treasurer of Alekhine Chess Club, died following an accident Wednesday evening. He was 63.
Mukherjee-da, as he was lovingly called, fell from the staircase of Gorky Sadan, where the club is situated, in the evening and succumbed to the injuries at a nursing home little later.
A thorough gentleman who preferred to keep a low-profile, Mukherjee was a dedicated and efficient worker for the development of chess among the young.
He was an integral part of The Telegraph Schools’ Chess Championship and was always ready with all the information required to run a competition of such nature.
Mukherjee is survived by his wife and a son.
