Inflation at 36-week high

New Delhi, Sept 8 (PTI): A spurt in prices of vegetables, course cereals, vegetable oil and manufactured products pushed up the inflation rate by 0.18 per cent to touch a 36-week high at 3.59 per cent during the week ending August 24.

The annual rate of inflation, based on the wholesale price index (WPI) for all commodities, was at 3.41 per cent in the previous week and 5.14 per cent a year ago. The WPI rose by 0.3 per cent to 167.4 from 166.9 during the previous week and 161.6 a year ago.

Index for primary articles rose by 0.7 per cent to 175 from 173.7 a week ago and 169.4 a year ago mainly due to a 7.6 per cent rise in vegetable prices and 1.9 per cent rise in prices of fruits.
