Patient death sparks ransack

Local people ransacked a private hospital and assaulted doctors and nurses at Ariadaha, in the Belghoria police station area, after a pregnant woman died soon after she was admitted on Saturday evening.

At least 12 agitators were injured after police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. A large contingent of police has been deployed in the area.

According to police, Mithu Ghosh, 23, was admitted to Ramkrishna Matrisadan at about 7 pm. She died minutes after admission. The relatives of the patients alleged that Mithu died of negligence.

Around 30 youths stormed the hospital and ransacked the office. Doctors and nurses were also assaulted. No arrests have been made so far.
