Calcutta: Mukesh Kumar returned his second successive round in the 60s to open a two-stroke lead over Firoz Ali at the halfway stage of the Rs 7 lakh Hindu Open in Chennai Thursday.
Mukesh added a four-under 68 to his overnight 66 for a ten-under 134 after two rounds. Firoz was eight-under with a round of 69.
The stars of the day were Delhi youngster Ashok Kumar and local amateur Gurunath Meiyappan. Ashok returned the day’s best of five-under 67 which lifted him to the third spot at seven-under 137. Gurunath shot a four-under, including an eagle.
City duo of Rafiq Ali and Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia was tied for the fourth place at five-under 139. Indrajit Bhalotia and Vinod Kumar were joint sixth.
