Padatik Contemporary Dance Centre mounts an exclusive cinematic presentation that charts the evolution of contemporary dance and Kathak in Hindi movies, right from its inception during the black & white era to its modern form. Rising beyond age barrier and physical endurance, the lavish production, with 330 performers, aims at attaining a harmonious unity of the body and the soul. It is a journey of self-discovery through evolution of various styles. The production presents impressions of Hindi movies of different decades. A total of seven such moods — the Black-n-White, the Shamma and the Mehfil, Shake & Twist, Back to Disco, Romantic 90s, New Age and Moulin Rouge — will be presented as a visual spectacle set against the most popular songs of the respective era. Focussing on type characters who are representatives of each era, including K.N. Singh, Bhagwan Dada and Madhubala, the programme concludes with an extract from Moulin Rouge — the high crescendo evokes the spirit of cinema in abstraction of form, movement, music, rhythm and presentation. The programme is supported by a display of posters and photographs of films of the 50s and 60s.
