SA players ready to sign contract

Johannesburg: South Africa’s players have agreed to sign their International Cricket Council (ICC) contracts, the United Cricket Board (UCB) said Tuesday.

“The UCB is pleased to confirm that South African players who have been chosen to represent South Africa in the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka this month have agreed, through their players’ association, to sign the necessary player terms agreements,” a UCB media statement said.

The release followed a meeting in Cape Town between UCB chief executive Gerald Majola and the chief executive of the South African Cricketers’ Association, Tony Irish.

The ICC, cricket’s ruling body, insisted players signed contracts that barred them from signing endorsement deals with competitors of event sponsors.
