Chopper charge

New Delhi, Aug. 29 (PTI): Taking exception to the use of government machinery for election purposes ahead of the Assembly polls in Kashmir, the Election Commission has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to recover from its minister the charges for using the state helicopter.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the three-member commission headed by the chief election commissioner.

The commission said verification of a newspaper report showed that up forest minister jaiveer singh had taken a bsp leader in a state helicopter to jammu for electioneering.

Since the model code of conduct had already come into force in the state, the commission had directed the up government to recover the expenses incurred on using the helicopter from the personal funds of the minister.
