Smart Ruler lifts Colts Stakes

Calcutta: Quoted at crammed odds of 2-10 despite his heavyweight, Smart Ruler returned a handsome winner of the 1,400m Calcutta Colts Trial Stakes on Wednesday. Amyn Merchant, who partnered the well-bred Razeen-Regal Star son to victory, helped trainer Daniel David notch up four winners in afternoon’s seven-event race-card.

In a three-horse-contest and from the same stable, Smart Ruler’s superiority was never in doubt from the word ‘go.’ Merchant had him nicely settled behind Moon Quest till the half-way stage and let loose the rein to cruise home for a shade over four-length victory over the 5-1 second-favourite Royal City.

Merchant-David combination went on the claim the Wise Guy Cup when Immaculate thrashed his five rivals Midas Touch in Cap-A-Pie Handicap and Lively Project in the Tangaroa Handicap helped the duo complete their day’s tally.. H. S. Bath’s Rheinheart lifted the Stirabout Cup.
