Real players get Zidane reminder

Paris: European champions Real Madrid have a duty to win the European Supercup when they face Uefa Cup holders Feyenoord in Monaco on Friday, according to their French playmaker Zinedine Zidane.

“Madrid have never won this trophy and the club directors have asked us to beat Feyenoord on Friday. It’s crucial for Real Madrid to have their name carved on every trophy at stake. It’s what the club wants and it’s what I want,” he said.

Zidane said the Spanish side had lofty ambitions for the coming season. “We are aiming at five goals — the Supercup, the World Club Cup, the Champions League, the Spanish title and the King’s Cup,” he said. “We know that we are not going to win them all. But it’s our duty, at least to try to.”

Reviewing last season, Zidane said he was happy with his performances as Real Madrid won the Champions League, finished second in the first division and reached the Spanish Cup final.

“We could have done a little bit better but we had a poor start to the season.” (Reuters)
