Indian athletes to be named Thursday

New Delhi: The Amateur Athletic Federation of India Sunday said the squad for the Asian Games will be announced on August 29 after gauging the performance of the athletes in Mondayís Circuit Meet and the final one in Ludhiana.

AAFI secretary Lalit K. Bhanot said here that the DDA-Raja Bahalendra Singh National Athletic Circuit Meet at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will be a one-day prize money event, with stars like 400 m runner K. M. Beenamol, Neelam J. Singh (discus) and shot putter Navpreet Singh and Paramjit Singh (400 m) in fray among men and women, respectively.

There will be 16 events plus the menís and womenís relay in the 4x100 m in the meet offering a prize money of Rs 20,000 (1st prize), Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000.

However, long jumper Anju B. George (Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner) and high jumper Bobby Aloysius will not be competing. (pti)
