BJP conflict spills out

Kalna (Burdwan), Aug. 24: Six BJP members, including three office-bearers in the district unit, were beaten up by supporters of expelled party general secretary Swapan Bhattacharya.

They later gheraoed state BJP president Asim Ghosh for over five hours in a guesthouse here, demanding Bhattacharya’s recall.

“No one will be allowed to indulge in corrupt practices while being a member of our party,” Ghosh said after being “rescued” by the police.

Bhattacharya denied involvement in the attack, but added that he had been unjustly treated by the party’s state leadership.
