ILSS champions

Indian Life Saving Society (ILSS) edged past Rishra Swimming Club 8-7 to emerge champions in the 48th centennial waterpolo tournament at College Square. Babu Naiya, who hit the target thrice for ILSS, was adjudged Man-of-the-Final.

George ride Jana strike

George Telegraph beat Milan Bithee in the lone first division group A clash at Mohun Bagan ground on Friday. Jayanta Jana struck the matchwinner.

Indoor cricket

British Deputy High Commission and Pioneer Polyfab registered contrasting wins in the corporate indoor cricket, being played at Space Circle on Thursday.

While British Deputy High Commission (84) beat Seagrams (78) by six runs, Blue Star were bundled out for 42 in reply to Polyfab’s 115.

Arora in lead

City boy and last year’s finalist, Pradeep Arora was leading the field with an average score of 193.67, followed by Siddharth Bothra (177.33), at the end of the first round in the national bowling meet. In the open category, Neeraj Sharma and Nidhi Bajaria were leading in the men’s and women’s sections, respectively.

Contract bridge

Thirty teams will take part in the Hindustan Club-organised duplicate contract bridge meet over the weekend. Among renowned players taking part are Kamal Mukherjee, Manas Mukherjee and Sudhir Ganguly.

Trekking team

An eight-member team of Himalaya Lovers’ Association led by Ashoke Mukherjee will leave Saturday for a high-altitude trek to the Pin-Parbati Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The other members of the team are Jnan Ranjan Ghosh, Apurba Chakraborty, Dipankar Ranjan Kar, Debashish Chowdhury, Pranab Dutta, Ajit Dutta, Tarun Roy Chowdhury and Sherpa Karni.
