Calcutta, Oct. 20:
With the rain finally relenting on the last day of Bengal’s Cooch Behar Trophy (under-19) tie versus Tripura, action returned to the Eden Gardens again today.

Bengal’s left-arm spinner Anirban Chatterjee was virtually unstoppable, adding three wickets to his overnight tally of two, to finish with five for 17. That performance alone saw Tripura, 37 for five overnight, fold up for 100.

Jogesh Golpade top-scored for Tripura with 20. With Tripura’s innings ending 17 minutes before lunch, the hosts had the next two sessions worth 221 minutes, in which 58 overs were possible. Bengal managed 142 for four.

Opener Ajoy Garai made 50 off 131 balls and hit five boundaries. Subhajit Pal top-scored with 56, hitting four boundaries and a six in his 89-minute stay.

The first two Bengal wickets fell quickly, at 10 and 35, but the third fell at 108, Pal and Garai’s third wicket stand yielding 73 runs.

Tomorrow, the two sides play their one-dayer here, and then Bengal travel to Jorhat to play Assam from October 25.

Brief scores: Tripura 100 (J Golpade 20; A Chatterjee 5/17). Bengal 141/4 in 58 ovs (Ajoy Garai 50, Subhajit Pal 56). Bengal 5 pts; Tripura 3 pts.

In reply, Orissa achieved the target in just 21.5 overs losing four wickets. Mohanty remained not out with 30 runs from 27 deliveries.

BRIEF SCORES: Sikkim 100 all out in 43.2 ovs (Avijit Chatterjee 27, Rakesh Mohanty 5/20). Orissa 101/4 in 21.5 ovs (Arun Nayak 36, Rakesh Mohanty 30 n.o.; Ratnesh Shukla 2/16).
