Calcutta, June 17: 
Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathis nine-match winning streak ended today at the Queens Club in London.

According to information received here, the French Open champions lost 6-7 (5-7), 4-6 to American twins Bob and Mike Bryan in the semi-finals of the Stella Artois grasscourt meet.

In the other semi-final, qualifiers Eric Taino and David Wheaton shocked second seeds Donald Johnson and Jared Palmer 7-5, 6-4.

   

 
 
CCFC, LMOB A TOP GROUPS

Calcutta, June 17: 
CCFC and LMOB A registered convincing wins to top their respective groups in the Calcutta 10-a-side Championship.

While CCFC beat Calcutta Police 36-0, LMOB A overcame Sergeants Institute 29-0 in final round of league matches. Future Hope and LMOB B finished second in the two groups after beating CCFC Gremlins and Young Rugby Club 53-0 and 15-0, respectively. With the organisers deciding to introduce semi-finals at a meeting last evening instead of playing the final straightaway CCFC will clash with Future Hope and LMOB A will take on LMOB B next Saturday. The final, which was scheduled for June 23, will now come off a week later.

Seven CFL ties fall through

Seven of the scheduled Calcutta Football League fifth division matches fell through today due to rain. In the three matches that were possible, Srijan Mustafi netted a hattrick. He scored all three goals in Shibsankar SCs win over Tara Friends Club. Arunoday Club beat South Folk 3-0 and Mirzapur Union edged past Calcutta Parsee Club 1-0.

City boy Mohammad Junaid Alam and Midnapore girl Saheli Roy dived to glory on the final day of the age-group aquatic championships at the Calcutta Sports Association pool today.

Junaid and Saheli both won two events each highboard and 3m springboard in group II.

3m springboard: Boys gr. I: Kartick Shaw; Girls gr. I: Mamoni Mondal.

Highboard: Boys gr. I: Dipendu Pramanik; Boys gr. III: Saroj Nandy. Girls gr. III: Mou Bhattacharya.

In a thrilling finish, the admanabhan-trained three-year-old Royal Gladiator claimed the Kingfisher Colts Trial Stakes in Bangalore on Sunday. Malesh Narredu partnered the Honour And Glory-Goodnight Moon colt to half-a-length victory over Royal Liberator.
