Court serves notice on JCA
Suresh to join probables
FCI win 2-0

Jamshedpur, June 14:
The on-going tussle between the Cricket Association of Jharkhand (CAJ) and the Jharkhand Cricket Association (JCA) climaxed here today with the munsif court issuing a show cause notice to the latter asking why a temporary injunction will not be granted for its elections slated for Sunday.

The show cause was issued after an member of the erstwhile Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), Zaki Ahmad, filed a suit yesterday praying the court to restrain “such illegal and unauthorised proposed elections” of the JCA. The petition was filed against the JCA, c/o Debal Sahay, Director (personnel), Central Coalfield Limited, and seven others.

The court further directed the defendants to submit their show cause notice on or before Saturday when it would hear the prayer for the injunction.

Trouble started in the new state after the Jharkhand faction of the BCA split into the CAJ, headquartered in the city, and the JCA with headquarters in Ranchi, over issues of voting rights. The CAJ concluded its polls last month.

Meanwhile, minister of state for sports, youth and culture Baidnath Ram sent a congratulatory message to newly-elected CAJ president Amitabh Choudhary who is also superintendent of police, East Singbhum.

Calcutta, June 14:
M. Suresh has been asked to join the probables for the Merdeka Cup camp in Bangalore. Unavailability of a number of defenders originally picked for the camp has prompted the move, informed India coach Sukhwinder Singh today.

Suresh spent the previous season with Mohun Bagan after a year-long stint with ITI, Banaglore, and has now shifted to Mahindra United in Mumbai.

The coach informed he was having a tough time in picking defenders as a number of key players were not available. “Deepak Mondal, Roberto Fernandes and Tapan Ghosh are all indisposed,” said the coach.

“We also thought of Tollygunge Agragami’s Satish Bharti but it would have been difficult to contact him,” he said, adding the final squad will be picked soon.

The Merdeka Cup begins in Kuala Lumpur on June 21 and India open against the Malaysian under-23 team the next day. Their other group matches are against Thailand (June 24) and UAE (June 26).

With so many frontline defenders not available, Sukhwinder has to choose the stopper-backs from Daljit Singh, Mahesh Gawli and Suresh. He may also think of using Jo Paul Ancheri at the heart of defence.

He is well-placed as far as side-backs are concerned though left-back Ratan Singh and goalkeeper Prasanta Dora may face action for not joining the camp. Dora, it was learnt from his family today, has been running a temperature for the last few days.
