Calcutta, Aug. 18 
Rajasthan rode a S. Bhattacharjee goal to a 1-0 victory over Kidderpore in a first division group A tie of the Calcutta Football League today. The other match, between Mohammedan AC and Milan Bithee (Howrah), ended goalless.

In group B, Bowbazar YMU overcame Taltala DS by a Pradip Pal goal. Aikya Sammilani defeated Police AC by a similar scoreline, Faiz Alam getting the goal. Bally Protiva sailed past Victoria SC 2-0, the goals coming from Santanu Dey and Anandamohan Das. Sporting Union beat Ever Ready Association via a T. Giri goal.

Transport soccer

Ten teams will participate in the all-India state road transport undertakings’ football meet, to be held at SAI from Monday. The final comes off on August 29.

The CSTC-organised meet has attracted teams from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh. Five teams from the state — CSTC, CTC, SBSTC, NBSTC and Surface Transport — will also take part.

Kabaddi patch-up

The two warring factions in the state kabaddi administration have resolved their differences and will “work as a team” under the West Bengal Kabaddi Association banner. The “amicable settlement” was reached recently at a meeting in the presence of G.C. Bhargava, chairman of the Referees board, Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India.

Swapan Sadhan Bose will stay president while Ranjit Dhar has been named working president. Mrityunjoy Bose is the secretary and Keshav Dutta the treasurer.

Xavier’s awarded match

St Xavier’s School were awarded full points after their protest against Khalsa Model Senior Secondary School for having fielded overage players in the BHA President’s Cup was upheld today. St Xavier’s had lost 0-3.

In other matches today, Biswalakshmi Sports Academy beat St James School 4-3 via the tie-breaker and Kalyangarh Hockey Coaching Centre overcame Calcutta Kennel Club 3-0.

Yesterday, Khalsa HS got past Kalyangarh BM 3-0, Kalyangarh HCC defeated La Martiniere for Boys 3-0 and St Xavier’s beat Barnagore SC 2-0.    


 
 
TARUNKANTA TO LEAD INDIA

Calcutta, Aug. 18 
A four-member Indian pentathlon team led by Tarunkanta Singh will take part in the youth world championships in Orlando, Florida from September 1-3. The other members are Sanayaima Lourembam, Jagannath Lairenjam and Netaji Keithellakpam. Jiteshor Meitei is the coach.

Tennis exposure

The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association and Paes En Sport Pvt Ltd have got together to form a junior team comprising Sunil Kumar Sipaeya, Vinod Sewa and Amonjot Singh. The purpose is to give international exposure to these talented youngsters. Sipaeya and Sewa are currently participating in the US ITF hardcourt circuit. Sewa recently won the Windsor Canadian Open Ontario meet.
