"I always wanted to pursue humanities. Often, I used to get remarks that one doesn't get good career opportunities studying humanities. However, my parents have always countered that narrative and encouraged me to study what I liked," she said.

Sharing her success mantra behind this spectacular performance, Ritisha said that people study with the sole purpose of getting marks which, according to her, should not be the case.

"Study what you are passionate about. I love the subjects which I study. I always wanted to increase my knowledge on the subjects. Apart from studying for marks, I wanted to learn new things. This helped me a lot in improving my scores," she said.

"There is a huge misconception that subjects related to humanities doesn't have good career opportunities. That needs to be broken. Humanities, as a subject has a lot of career opportunities," she added.

An avid reader since her childhood days, Ritisha wishes to pursue her higher studies in History and pursue a career in Journalism and will be appearing in the upcoming CUET UG examination.

"It is indeed a proud moment for all of us. She has imbibed the habit of book reading since childhood and loves to read. We have always supported her decision to take up humanities instead of science," said Anindo Bagchi, Ritisha's father.

"We are extremely proud of our students who have secured state ranks in both ISC and ICSE. This is the first time our school secured all three of the top ranks (1st, 2nd & 3rd) in ISC, and two ranks in ICSE," said Ananya Dutta, Principal of Vivekananda Mission School, Joka.

"Ritisha secured the first rank in ISC, breaking the myth that all toppers are from the science stream. We cherish this proud moment. Our school consistently performs very well. This success is possible because of the hard work of our students, the constant support rendered by our teachers, necessary suggestions given by our dynamic management, and, of course, our close bond with the parents," she added.

A total of 99,901 candidates had appeared in the Class XII ISC examination that was conducted between February 12 and April 4 this year. This year's ISC examinations have witnessed a pass percentage of 98.19 percent.
