Knight Golf, in association with t2, the annual charity event that raises funds for the Meer Foundation, which works towards helping and empowering the acid attack survivors, was back at Royal Calcutta Golf Club recently. If the biggest attraction was teeing off alongside the Knights, the special guests were a bunch of budding female footballers, all hailing from Birbhum and who are a part of Shreeja India’s (a non-profit organisation that aims at empowering women through sports and education) Football & Beyond, Birbhum programme. The initiative has received support from Knight Golf and Meer Foundation over the past year.

“I feel thrilled to be here at the Knight Golf event. It’s a blessing that has been bestowed upon us. All the players are my favourites. I wanted to ask about certain tips, tricks and techniques of being a dedicated sportsperson,” shared Mangali Murmu, 19.
“The girls are excited. They are more exposed to football because in the villages, even now, nobody plays cricket. But they love sports. All these girls have been associated with us for more than five years. So, they have grown up and are being nurtured under Shreeja India. Through football, they learn confidence building, sharing and caring. They learn awareness and how to build their mental toughness. This is more like an inspiration to them and a doorway to dream beyond their village peripheries," shared Somasree Basu, programme manager, Shreeja India.
