Japanese Film Festival Online to make 23 films and two shows available for free streaming; full lineup inside

Organised by the Japan Foundation, the film festival will be held from June 5 to July 3 this year

The 2024 edition of the Japanese Film Festival Online is set to make 23 films and two TV dramas comprising 20 episodes available for online streaming from June 5 to July 3, according to organisers The Japan Foundation.

“Here’s the big reveal! The official film lineup for JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL ONLINE 2024! 23 films and 2 TV dramas available for FREE STREAMING! Tune in from 05 June to 03 July 2024,” the official handle of the Japanese Film Festival India wrote on X alongside a poster of the lineup for the festival.

Viewers from 27 countries including India can indulge in this cinematic feast. Subtitles will be offered in up to 16 languages for the films screened during the fest.

Other than India, the online festival will be available for audiences in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Egypt, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Mainland China, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam.

The 2024 lineup of Japanese Film Festival Online includes the 2021 romantic drama We Made a Beautiful Bouquet, 2023 coming-of-age drama Single8 and 2022 anime drama Anime Supremacy. The TV shows to be screened at the festival are Downtown Rocket (2015) and Rikuoh (2017).

The Japan Foundation launched the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) in 2016 as part of the JFF Asia-Pacific Gateway Initiative. Its objective was to introduce Japanese cinema to 10 ASEAN nations and Australia. In 2017, China and India were also included in this endeavour, followed by Russia in 2018. In 2023, the JFF was held across 10 countries with over 1,20,000 attendees.
