Karan Johar drops Ae Dil Hai Mushkil BTS featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Released theatrically on October 28, 2016, the film explores the journey of two characters, Alizeh and Ayan, as they navigate life, love and heartbreak

Filmmaker Karan Johar has dropped behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of the 2016 romantic drama film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Here’s a look.

“Ae Dil hai Mushkil will always be personal to me…It was all my life learnings about falling in love, dealing with unrequited love and also how resilient we can be even when the heartbreak feels so final…The experience of filming ADHM was one of my best on set experiences,” wrote Karan on Instagram on Friday.

In his note, Karan praised Ranbir’s dedication to his craft. “I got to know and understand ‘the Ranbir process’ and deeply respect it…He never let his homework or his hard work apparent to anyone...I got to know and love him as a person and appreciate his detachment from stardom or movie star trapping,” stated Karan, adding how Ranbir’s portrayal of singer Ayan Sanger “went beyond the written word”.

Karan thanked Aishwarya for her graceful portrayal of poet Saba Taliyar Khan. The 51-year-old filmmaker shared a picture with the actress that shows them twinning in black on the set of the film. The duo appear engrossed in some intense discussion.

A candid photo shows Karan reviewing shots with Anushka, who essays the role of Alizeh Khan in the film. In his caption, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director lauded Anushka’s genuineness on and off-screen. “Anushka is pure hearted and that always come through on screen,” wrote Karan, adding how her friendship with Ranbir transcended from personal to celluloid perfectly.

Sharing a picture of himself laughing with Ranbir on the film set, Karan reflected on the joyful memories of making Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. “I look back at the days of filming ADHM with a big smile and a cathartic heart,” read his caption.

A picture captured Karan and Anushka performing a funny dance number. Karan acknowledged the enduring impact of the film's music, crediting the magic and genius of its creators, Pritam and Amitabh Bhattacharya.

On the work front, Karan is all set to produce Sharan Sharma’s upcoming sports thriller Mr. & Mrs. Mahi starring Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles. The film is slated to arrive in cinemas on May 31. The 51-year-old filmmaker will also co-produce Alia Bhatt’s Jigra. Shashank Khaitan’s upcoming directorial venture Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Sanya Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor will also be backed by Karan. The film will be released on April 18 next year.
